Wednesday Rants

A place for opinions, rants, and all out bluster.

Well, the worst has happened: Trump won the election.  It was so close, there are those who want to blame protest/third-party voters for this outcome.  That's an terribly unproductive response.  We need to cry and wail for a bit, because this is a serious blow to human rights campaigns, civil rights, equal rights, freedom of religion, freedom of choice, body autonomy, personal sovereignty, possibly even free speech.  But we need to continue to fight back, to maintain our focus, for our children and their children.  We cannot give up.  As long as we continue to fight and be vocal, we move forward.  Maybe at a frustratingly slow pace, but still ever forward.

Backlash is a terrible phenomenon.  We saw it in the 1980's with Reagan and we saw it 2000 with Bush 2.  But we continued.  We fought and made it through those times of backlash to stand taller than the time before.  Get out there and fight.  Educate.  Challenge.

To all those who think this is a good thing and America will be great again, I sincerely hope I'm proven wrong.  But don't for a moment believe that taking away the voices of those you'd rather see pushed to the edges of society will make this country in any way "great".  You cannot be "great" if any of your citizens are made to feel less of a citizen than the majority.

So, remember, we're here, we're queer (and bi and ace and trans and black, brown, yellow, and red and Muslim and Pagan and Atheist and all those things that aren't straight white Christian), and we're Americans too.

  1. I am angry too. Anyone who is anything other than a rich white straight Christian man and voted for Trump has no right to complain about what happens to him/her.
